Kiru is a video editor and live-streaming studio for the Mac, made by Fullstack Labs. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use the Kiru app and this website. The short version: your footage, projects and recordings stay on your Mac. We don't run servers that receive them, and we don't sell or share your data.
The Kiru app
- Your media and projects are stored on your Mac, in the folders you choose (by default
~/Movies/Kiro). Kiru does not upload them to us. - No analytics, no tracking. The app does not send usage analytics or tracking data to us. Its logs stay on your Mac (
~/Library/Logs/Kiro) unless you choose to send them to us. - Updates. Kiru checks our website for new versions (Sparkle). That request contains the app version and your macOS version, as any download would.
- Camera, microphone and screen. Kiru uses them only when you record or go live, after macOS asks for your permission. What they capture is saved on your Mac and, when you go live, sent to the streaming service you choose.
Services you connect
Some features use outside services that you connect with your own account or key. When you use one of those features, Kiru sends that service only what the feature needs, directly from your Mac:
- AI features (Anthropic, OpenAI, ElevenLabs): frames, sound or text from the clips you ask Kiru to understand, narrate or score. Their own privacy policies apply.
- Stock footage (Pexels, Pixabay): your search words.
- Live streaming: the live video and sound go to the service you stream to (for example YouTube, or any server you enter).
Keys and sign-ins are stored in your Mac's Keychain. They are never sent to us.
YouTube and your Google data
When you choose Sign in with YouTube, Kiru asks Google for one permission, https://www.googleapis.com/auth/youtube (manage your YouTube account), and uses YouTube API Services to run live streams on your channel. Kiru is a Mac app: it talks to Google directly from your computer, and none of your Google data passes through or is stored on Fullstack Labs' servers.
What Google user data Kiru accesses
- Your channel's name (channels.list), shown in Kiru so you can see which channel you are signed in to.
- Your live broadcasts and live streams (liveBroadcasts, liveStreams): Kiru lists your upcoming broadcasts, creates, schedules, starts and ends broadcasts with the title, description, privacy, category, tags and thumbnail you choose, and reads the stream's ingestion address and key so it can send your video to YouTube.
- Live viewer count and live chat (videos.list liveStreamingDetails, liveChatMessages.list): while you are live, Kiru reads the number of concurrent viewers and the chat messages (author name, message text and time) so you can see them in the app.
Kiru does not read your email, contacts, subscriptions, watch history, comments or any other Google data, and it does not upload, delete or edit videos other than the broadcasts it creates for you.
How Kiru uses it
Only to provide the live-streaming features you ask for, and to show you your own stream. We do not use your Google data for advertising, we do not sell it, we do not use it to train AI models, and we do not share it with anyone. Kiru's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
How your data is protected
- All requests to Google use encrypted HTTPS (TLS) connections, made directly from your Mac to Google.
- Your sign-in is protected by Google's OAuth: Kiru never sees your Google password.
- The long-lived sign-in token (refresh token) is stored in your Mac's Keychain, which macOS encrypts and protects with your login. Short-lived access tokens are kept in memory only and are never written to disk.
- Fullstack Labs has no copy of your token or your YouTube data and no way to access them.
How long it is kept, and how to delete it
- Sign-in token: kept in your Keychain until you sign out. Choosing Sign out in Kiru's Go Live window revokes Kiru's access at Google and deletes the token from your Keychain. You can also remove Kiru at any time on your Google Account connections page, which revokes its access.
- Viewer counts and chat: saved with the recording of that stream, in a
stream.jsonfile inside your project folder on your Mac, so you can find the best moments later. It stays only on your Mac, and you delete it by deleting that recording or project folder. - Usage counter: Kiru keeps a count of how many YouTube API calls it made today (
~/Library/Application Support/Kiro/youtube-quota.json), with no personal data, so it stays inside YouTube's daily limits. - Uninstalling Kiru and deleting its folders removes everything it stored. Because nothing is stored on our servers, there is nothing for us to delete; if you have any question about your data, contact us below.
By using Kiru's YouTube features, you agree to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service. Google's use of your information is described in the Google Privacy Policy.
This website
kiru.video sets no cookies and uses no third-party analytics. To compare two versions of the page, it counts page views and download clicks per day. The version you see is picked from a one-way hash of your connection details that is computed and thrown away on each request. Only the totals are kept. Like any website, our server and our network provider (Cloudflare) may keep short-lived technical logs for security.
Children
Kiru is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and its date.
